Today, genre-fluid musical duo poptropicaslutz! unveil their sophomore album, ‘the new 925’, set for release on March 28th via Epitaph Records. Following the December debut of lead single “mdma keeps the doctor away”—praised by Rolling Stone UK for its “rap-infused verses and sing-song deliveries”—the band teases their latest evolution with the new single and music video, “tryna get that kate moss 2025.”
Over a euphoric blend of experimental pop and hip-hop, Nick Crawford (23) and Christian Cicilia (22) showcase their dynamic creative chemistry.
With autotuned, quick-witted lyrics that appear playful on the surface, the track uses gym culture and fitness as metaphors for shedding emotional baggage rather than physical pounds.
The result is an anthem about freeing oneself from societal expectations to uncover true inner strength.

While the song’s message centers on mental and emotional growth, the accompanying music video leans into its vanity-driven lyrics with tongue-in-cheek flair.
Directed by Kahre and Max Durante, the cinematic visual is an abstract montage of the duo flexing their gains in a gym, juxtaposed with clips of 90’s fashion runways, fitness videos, and athletic feats.
Commenting on the duality of the themes, the band explains:"While trying to convince yourself that you’re letting go of the need for external validation, at the same time, you’re pining for it. Basically saying ‘I’m doing this for me, but don’t I look good doing it?’”
The forthcoming album builds on the success of their 2023 debut full-length, Face For The Radio, refining their signature glitched-out meets nostalgic sound. Across a catalog boasting over 50 million streams, poptropicaslutz! blend hyperpop, pop-punk, and rap, drawing heavily from the early 2000s alternative scene.
With ‘the new 925’, the New York natives—and recent LA transplants—revitalize their hip-hop roots with innovative production by longtime collaborators kodeblooded and aldrch, alongside vocal deliveries inspired by Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, and A$AP Rocky.
Reflecting on their sonic evolution, the band shared:"We made the conscious decision to kill the old fucking poptropicaslutz!, but there are certain vibes and deliveries on the new project that are reminiscent of our old music.
Maybe it feels a little emo, or there are rock elements to some songs. We’re just bouncing between genres because we have so many influences. We don’t want to conform, and I know a lot of people love us for that.”
From Viral Buzz to Cult Following
After cutting their teeth on SoundCloud, poptropicaslutz! hit a viral moment on TikTok with their debut single “grandma got run over by a lawnmower” in 2020, which Fashionably Early described as “a meeting of post-hardcore and rap.”
The band quickly gained a cult-like following in New York, which has since grown into a dedicated fanbase. Their shift toward electronic and guitar-led influences caught the attention of Epitaph Records, leading to two EPs and their acclaimed debut album.
Described by Ones To Watch as “complex and dynamic pop songs best visualized as colorful mosaic paintings of sound,” poptropicaslutz! continue to push boundaries and redefine genre conventions with ‘the new 925.’
Mark your calendars for March 28th—this is one album you won’t want to miss.
